Todd Schepis, early 1990s, mid - late 1990s
Todd Schepis joined the 1097th in the early 90s right out of AIT. He was assigned to the LCU 1600s as a Seaman. He left Panama in late 93 or early 94 to be assigned to Eustis. He returned to the 1097th in the mid 90s. He was assigned to Maintenance Platoon. He left Panama in late 98 or early 99. I think he was assigned to Eustis, but I don't actually remember seeing him in the past year. PV2/PFC married one of the new cooks from the mess hall. I think they had one baby while in Panama. Schmitz (first name unknown, male), mid 1990s
Schmitz joined the 1097th in the mid 90s. He was assigned as the Chief Engineer of the LCM 8501. He was Lovo Frio's Engineer the day we got our LCM's broached on Pina Beach. Since we had left at 4:45am on a Staurday morning and we were planning on being back by 8:00am at the latest, he did not lock his door to his room in the Bldg 30 barracks. After being out at Pina all day and the entire night, when the CO finally decided to grace us with his presence he did an inspection of the barracks. He found Schmitz's stun gun and freaked out. He gave Schmitz a thorough butt chewing. Everyone got one also because we had left the barracks at 4:45am on a Saturday morning without cleaning them first, go figure. Schmitz left Panama in the mid 90s. He is currently assigned to the 8th Trans Co at Eustis. I have no further information. Information is as of 5 July 2000.

Scott Selmeki, mid - late 1990s
Scott Selmecki joined the 1097th in the mid 90s. He was assigned as the Platoon Leader of Medium Boat. Right after he took over as the PL the LCM 8501 lost it's ramp off of Shelter Point. He almost had a cow. I reasured him by saying that it was Medium Boat tradition for things to go wrong at first and that if he didn't get relieved for this he never would get relieved. After about a week of problems trying to locate the ramp the ramp was finally recovered. He actually said, "I'm not going to get relieved." He was later reassigned as the XO. He got out of the Army after he left the 1097th. I have no further information. Information is as of 5 July 2000.

Later he served as the Medium Boat Platoon Sergeant. Still later he worked in Ops and also as the Mate of one of the LCU 2000s. He left Panama in the mid 90s to be assigned at Eustis. He returned to the States in late 95, but the powers that be decided that he was not elligible for a compassionate and returned him to Panama about 6 months after he left Panama to serve the remaining 3 months of his tour left in Panama. Tim Sullivan, late 1980s - early 1990s
Tim Sullivan joined the 1097th in the late 80s. He was assigned to an LCM, but I don't know which one. He fell overboard while the LCM was underway and he ended up turning his BDU bottoms into a life preserver that kept him afloat until he was rescued. I don't know how long he was actually in the water, but if I was in that situation making my BDU bottoms into a life preserver would not be the first thing that I would do unless I believed that I would not be rescued immediately. Tim left the 1097th in the early 90s to be assigned to the 331st Trans Co (ACV) at Story. He got out of the Army in 91 or 92. Tim E-mailed me a few months ago. He is out of the Army and he lost his wife, my condolences. I am in the process of sending his detailed blue prints of LCM’s so he can make models and sell them. I have no further information.
